Sub-project Münster: Ethnic Differentiation in the Mexican Nation-building Process
This sub-project investigates the historical formation of citizenship in Mexico in the early 19th century considering the ethnic and national categorisations of belonging in the postcolonial state and nation building process. In 2014-2016, the focus lies on the creation and application of ethnic and national categories of identity at the local level, to show their variability and contextuality. The project also aims at assembling results of the researchers of the Network in the form of radio features in Germany and Latin America.
In 2010-2014, the main topic was the meaning of ethnic adscription for the development of citizenship in indigenous and Afro-American populations in Mexico since the late 18th century.
